Steve Ross, Alpaca Show Coordinator
The National Alpaca Show sponsored by AOBA will be in Louisville this year. This offers new and seasoned alpaca breeders the opportunity to learn more about the industry. The year before I purchased any alpacas I joined ARI, AOBA and volunteered at the KY Classic as ring steward and at AOBA Nationals as ring steward and fleece show scribe. I attended color checking training, fleece show coordinator training, and worked several positions at the VAOBA fleece show. I encourage all of you to take advantage of the chance to be a part of Nationals as a VOLUNTEER. It is a great way to learn about alpaca fleece, conformation, and the farms around the US.
In the years since joining KAA, I continued to ring steward, act as color check lead, and clerked at the KY Classic show before being elected to the board as show coordinator. I have previously served on the KAA marketing committee and KAA show committee. As a member of the AOBA show division, I campaign alpacas at halter shows and fleece shows.
Even if you are not a member of KAA, we welcome your participation as a volunteer at our Kentucky Classic show and at the AOBA National show and when you join our association we hope you will take advantage of our educational benefits and begin showing your alpacas.
