KAA History
The Kentucky Alpaca Association originated from two of the first alpaca farms in the state who had come together to discuss the possibility of hosting an alpaca show. The proceeds of this first show would fund the start-up costs of a state organization. At that time, only as few as 6 to 8 farms were involved, but a very successful show was organized and held at Lakeside Arena in Frankfort, KY. The show, held in 2001, was much larger than anticipated and was supported by the national AOBA organization. In fact, the first KY Classic Alpaca Show was the first show ever sanctioned by AOBA.
The success of the show provided the necessary funding for the start-up of the Kentucky Alpaca Association, and the organization became incorporated, by-laws written, and officers elected. The KY Classic became and still is a well-planned and carefully executed show whose main goal continues to emphasize KY hospitality, cooperative efforts of KY alpaca farms, and emphasis on the KY alpaca industry.
